Dear Sir / Madam

I recently purchased a Tiger Drive for my Mach.26 whilst I am fully aware that I should have bought the S691 I didn't have much choice as my supplier
only had the S689 available. and after having it shipped from the USA to England I'm not intending on returning it I have adapted the back plate on the engine to accept the gear plate in the  S689 kit so no problems there, what does worry me though is the fact that  the shaft fitted to the gear wheel that fits into the back plate and should engage with the one way bearing is not 6mm but in fact 5.93mm although this is only 0.07mm under size it will not engage with the one way bearing, the original shaft (from the pull start) measures 5.98mm and does engage the one way bearing.

Please could you tell me if the shaft is pressed into the gear and if it will be possible to remove it and fit a shaft of the correct diameter?  Yours

Peter,

We will be happy to help you get this working right for you.  The shaft diameter problem is something that has been brought to our attention and all new
production has been modified to the correct diameter.  Obviously this does not help you too much though...There are three possible solutions for this
problem

1.)  One way bearings can "seat" to a particular shaft.  Probably the easiest thing for you to do would be replace the intermal one way with a new one and
it should work.  The reason we are confident this will work is that we have never had a complaint that the shaft was slipping when used on a new motor.  This does not guarantee success but it would seem likely to solve the problem.

2.)  You can press out the existing shaft and replace it with a 6mm dowel (Dowel must be hardened to Rc50+).  Please note one very important thing though which also applies to your modified set-up:  The shaft must be of the correct length to fully engage the internal one way but not longer as this will cause it to interfere with the connecting rod.  If you have not done so already you should remove the back plate and internal one way and assemble the Tiger Drive to it while it is off the engine so you can see how far the shaft goes into the one way and ensure it is within .030 in. of being flush with the one way.  To replace it with a dowel or something similar you will need to simply press out the existing shaft from the gear and press in the new one.  You will note that the stock shaft is knurled to provide grip to the gear but since this is not practical to do with a hardened dowel you may need to braze or tack weld the end slightly to ensure it does not slip in the gear when torque is applied.

3.) Lastly you can wait until we have the new shafts available (should be next week sometime) and we can send one to you.  This will take considerably
longer but should ensure a proper fit regarding the diameter.

Please also note that the Proper Tiger Drive for the Mach 26 is actually Sullivan P/N S687.  This unit comes with a adapter plate for mounting it to the
larger bolt pattern and the gear has a longer 6mm shaft attached to compensate for the offset.  I am sorry that you got some bad information on this and would appreciate it if you let me know where you heard this if it was on our side so we can correct this misnomer. I  hope this helps. Regards,

Kevin

Firstly let me thank you for your fast response, its not often that such a service is provided and its pleasing to know that you obviously value your customers. It would appear that I have not read your site as I should have noticed that it is indeed P/N S687 and not S691(my supplier does not stock S687 either) the one they do stock states that it fits most Dynamite engines take the link to see how Tower hobbies describe it
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXGFK6&P=7

You pointed out that the shaft in the S689 kit may be a little short for the Mach.26 I have just removed the back plate and had a measuring session and it is
indeed .061" short.

I think my best option would be to purchase the correct kit and then pass on the S689 to someone that has an engine it will fit.

I have a couple of questions for you though.

1. If I find a S687 kit how will I know if it has the later (nearer to 6mm) shaft included? they are not widely distributed over here in the UK and I don't really want to try and source a new one way bearing if I can avoid it. (my Mach.26 is only just run in)

2. Do you have the ability to ship a S687 kit (new version shaft) direct to me, I am willing to pay the going rate plus postage, the pull start can be refitted in the mean time and I do have another T-Maxx with a sirio.18 that can keep me going for a while so I'm not to worried about time.Once again I thank you for your support and very welcome information.

Best regards

Pete

Peter,

Thank you for the Kudos, we try our best.

I can see how you would get confused, their description is not very detailed.

Yes we can send it to you direct, which I agree would be the best way to ensure you get the right one. You can decide how you want it sent and we will give you a quote for it including everything.  The best way to determine what shipping you would like is to just do some online quotes.  try the postal service ( http://www.usps.com ) UPS, and any others you may like dealing with We are in Baltimore MD, the zip is 21224 and the package will probably be a small box weighing no more than 1 lb.  You will have to send us a Postal Money order payable in US funds to confirm the order as we do not process Credit cards  but since you are not in a hurry this should work fine.
